Summary
In August 2024, the Ipoh High Court awarded RM3.1 million in damages to a patient who had his right leg amputated above the knee due to negligent treatment at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB).
On 5.1.2019, the patient, who was a minor, was rushed to HRPB’s Emergency Department after a motorbike accident that injured his right knee. On 6.1.2019, the patient was referred to HKL’s Vascular Department at 2:00 a.m., but the ambulance was delayed until 3:30 a.m., causing the patient to arrive at HKL around 6:45 a.m.
Due to delays in diagnosing, treating and managing his condition, he developed severe vascular complications, ultimately leading to an amputation of the patient’s right leg above the knee.
In this case, the Government admitted liability.
Compensation Received:
RM3.1 million:-
- Special Damages: RM2,687,625 > Prosthetics, long-term care, therapy, and loss of earnings.
- General Damages: RM150,000
- Aggravated Damages: RM200,000 > Failure to provide proper medical advice & suppression of medical records.
